Testimony of a Cancer Survivor

The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt is a world-renowned, state of the art facility.  Every aspect of the hospital contributes to its outstanding reputation—the doctors and nurses, the atmosphere, the administration and the every member of the staff all play a key role in the Children’s Hospital being awarded and recognized as one of the top ten Children’s Hospitals in this country.  It represents a home for thousands of children across the southeast.  My first visit to the hospital was a little over eight years ago.  Needless to say, I was an extremely petrified thirteen year-old.

The amazing staff at the hospital did not treat me like just another number, just another cancer patient.  They showed me love and friendship, and made me truly feel safe.  Every child experiences this same type of feeling upon visiting the hospital, because every employee there is dedicated to making all visitors feel safe and as reassured as possible.  It goes without saying that I am an avid supporter of the Children’s Hospital, and all that it entails.  My only hope is that everyone reading this can gain a portion of my admiration as well.  We are so unbelievably blessed to have a place like The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, right here, in driving distance from our homes.  One never knows when tragedy will strike, but the comfort of knowing that we are prepared for such occurrences should lift one burden off us all.  I am so proud to be a youth ambassador for the hospital.  It is because of Vanderbilt that I am alive today.
